The Hopkinsville Police Department has released information about a shooting incident on Liberty Street on Wednesday, which resulted in one arrest and another being flown to the hospital.

According to the police report, officers responded to the 200 block of Liberty after receiving reports that Jaleon Dyess had been shot, resulting in a gunshot wound to the neck. He was flown to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

He identified the alleged shooter as Shadymon Buckner, 21, of Hopkinsville.

Officers located Buckner, who reportedly told officers she had gotten into a physical altercation with Dyess before shooting him, but witnesses at the scene said there was no physical conflict at the time of the shooting.

Buckner allegedly told officers where she hid the gun, and a search of that location yielded a firearm. It reportedly matched a shell casing discovered at the scene.

Buckner is currently facing first-degree assault charges.
