Architect Eugene Poole Jr. will present the keynote for the Christian County Chamber of Commerce's annual dinner

Eugene Poole Jr., an architect who has directed major projects in Washington, D.C., will be the keynote speaker at the Christian County Chamber of Commerce’s 136th annual dinner on Tuesday, June 17 at the Bruce Convention Center.

Poole oversaw the design and construction of the last four U.S. presidential inauguration ceremonies, as well as the restoration of the Capitol Dome, which was completed in 2016.

An accomplished visual artist, his work honors cultural heritage and community pride, according to a Chamber of Commerce announcement. “From small-town Kentucky to a leadership role in Washington, D.C., Dr. Poole’s story is a testament to the power of resilience, creativity, and staying connected to one’s roots.”

He graduated from Hopkinsville High School in 1978 and went on to earn an associate’s degree from Hopkinsville Community College and a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Kentucky.

In total, he holds four bachelor’s degrees, two master’s degrees, and a doctorate from the Howard University School of Divinity.

Poole, who joined the United States Air Force shortly after graduating from UK in 1985, is an accomplished artist and ordained minister. His artwork includes paintings, tapestries, and quilts.

One of his quilt projects honors black jockeys who have ridden Kentucky Derby horses. Reflections N Black: Kentucky Derby Jockeys features 31 quilts and is currently on display at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage in Louisville.

Poole is currently the deputy chief administrative officer for the architect of the United States Capitol, where he oversees the preservation and operation of historic landmarks.

The chamber dinner theme is Kentucky Home-Grown. Tickets are $80 per person for chamber members and $100 for non-members.

The social hour starts at 5 p.m. The dinner and program start at 6 p.m. Registration and table reservation information are available online.
