Lady Tigers blaze past UHA in blowout win to advance to District Championship Game

The Hopkinsville Lady Tigers are set to compete against the Christian County Lady Colonels in the 8th District championship for the 8th consecutive year. The Lady Tigers secured their spot in the championship by defeating the University Heights Academy Lady Blazers 66-43 in the second semifinal game at Lyle Dunbar Gym on Tuesday night.

Hopkinsville dominated early in the game, scoring the first eight points and maintaining the lead. Despite UHA’s efforts to narrow the gap, the Lady Tigers finished the first quarter with a 17-4 run and increased their lead to 25-11. Both teams struggled with ball security and shooting in the second quarter, but Hopkinsville’s three-point shots helped them maintain their advantage.

In the second half, Hopkinsville’s defense took over, preventing the Lady Blazers from making a field goal in the third quarter and limiting them to just five made free throws. TaRia Sharber, Ronnijha McGee, and Crislyn Murray’s strong defense in the paint left the Lady Blazers with few scoring opportunities.

Kahtahvia Fleming led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 25 points, while Makaya Payton contributed 15 points, and TaRia Sharber missed double digits with 9 points. With this win, Hopkinsville advances to the championship game against Christian County. This matchup has occurred seven times in the past seven seasons, with Hopkinsville winning four times and Christian County winning three times. Hopkinsville’s record now stands at 8-13.
