HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — A man was reportedly shot during a fight in Hopkinsville on Saturday morning, and a woman was arrested.
According to the Hopkinsville Police Department, a man called in on Saturday, April 19, reporting that he had been shot in the leg.
According to WKDZ Radio, the man was tracked down and taken to Jennie Stuart Health for treatment. However, the nature of the man’s injuries remains unknown.
Shortly after officers discovered the man near Yall’s convenience store, the Emergency Communications Centre received a call about a domestic assault in the 400 block of Bryan Street by 20-year-old Madison Klar.
Authorities said they discovered Klar at the house, and she claimed she shot the man during the assault.
According to WKDZ Radio, Klar was also taken to the hospital with facial injuries.
A detective went to Jennie Stuart Health to speak with Klar and the shooting victim. According to the arrest citation, the interviews revealed that “it was determined that the parties had been involved in a domestic assault situation,” and that Klar removed a handgun following the initial assault.
Officials said the man was shot outside the home, while Klar claimed she shot him from the top of the stairwell inside the home, but there was no evidence to show where the shot was fired.
Police said a detective recovered a live round from the floor near the upstairs bedroom’s bed and discovered the handgun in a lockbox under the mattress, where Klar had stated it would be. The firearm and ammunition were seized as evidence.
After receiving medical clearance for her injuries from the assault, Klar was taken to the Christian County Jail for second-degree assault and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to authorities.
There have been no additional details released regarding this incident.
