CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. – A Hopkinsville man is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop.

On the evening of April 19, Christian County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a traffic stop on E. 21st Street after noticing a vehicle without working tail lights.

The vehicle came to a stop in a residential driveway, and deputies made contact with the driver, Geovontae Poindexter, 28.

During the encounter, deputies noticed suspicious movements by the driver, including reaching behind the front passenger seat. Due to safety concerns, he was instructed to show his hands before being detained without incident.

Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered marijuana, an open alcohol container, and a firearm behind the seat.

Poindexter, a convicted felon, is not allowed to possess a firearm.

He’s facing the following charges:

  • No Tail Lamps
  • Possession of an Open Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Marijuana (Enhanced)
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Driving Under the Influence

Poindexter was transported to the Christian County Jail.
