According to 247Sports, guard Travis Perry will join the Kentucky Wildcats in 2024 as a four-star recruit after a standout high school career.
Perry decided to stay at home after turning down offers from Cincinnati, Missouri, Ole Miss, and Michigan. He grew up in Eddyville, Ky., just a short drive from Lexington.
Perry, fresh off a modest freshman season with the Wildcats, has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Nate Conley, his agent, listed 12 suitors reportedly interested in the 6-foot-1 guard, one of whom happens to be former Kentucky coach John Calipari and the Arkansas Razorbacks, according to Joe Tipton of On3Sports.
Perry’s decision concludes a hectic season.
He averaged 2.7 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists in 9.7 minutes per game before deciding to change his scenery.
This came after a 2024 high school season in which he was named Kentucky Mr. Basketball and became the state’s all-time leading scorer (5,381 points).
Perry’s freshman year with the Wildcats showed promise, but limited playing time prompted him to seek a program that could provide more opportunities.
Calipari, who led the Wildcats for 14 seasons and won the 2012 national championship before leaving for Arkansas, is one of the coaches pursuing Perry.
Calipari enters his second year in Fayetteville with an overhauled roster that includes returning guards D.J. Wagner and Billy Richmond III, as well as forward Trevon Brazile.
Arkansas advanced to the Sweet 16 and finished 20th in the AP Top 25, but struggled offensively, averaging only 76.8 points per game (95th nationally), a gap that Perry’s proven scoring ability could help close.
And for Perry, the move promises a starring role in a familiar conference, led by a coach who recruited him at Kentucky.
As the portal cycle continues, all eyes in the SEC will be on Perry to see if he picks up a Razorback jersey next.
