A man cuts his own throat and dies in the hospital

A request to check on the welfare of a suicidal man resulted in the man fleeing from law enforcement and cutting his own throat Friday morning.

Hopkinsville police say they stopped 29-year-old Jacob Weaver of Evansville in his vehicle on East 7th Street near Main Street and discovered he had cut his neck.

He then reportedly fled, running over spike strips set up by law enforcement.

The pursuit reportedly ended when Weaver drove through the grass at the Christian County Justice Center before coming to a halt on 9th Street after Christian County Sheriff’s Deputies used a precision immobilization technique.

Police say they were unable to communicate with Weaver before he cut himself. Hopkinsville EMS rushed Weaver to the hospital with CPR in progress, but he died as a result of his injuries.
