A federal grand jury in Paducah recently indicted a Hopkinsville man on charges of cocaine distribution and felon in possession of a firearm.
According to the indictment, DeMarcus McCarley, 41, was charged with the offenses on May 15, 2024, after allegedly distributing a cocaine mixture while in possession of a Glock.40 caliber semi-automatic handgun.
According to court records, McCarley has three previous cocaine trafficking convictions in Christian Circuit Court, dating back to December 2009, August 2010 and January 2015.
McCarley made his first court appearance this week before a US Magistrate Judge in the Western District of Kentucky, where he was detained pending trial.
If convicted, McCarley faces a 15-year mandatory minimum sentence and a maximum sentence of life in prison.
There is no parole in the federal system.
The Hopkinsville Police Department, the ATF Bowling Green Field Office, and the DEA Paducah Post of Duty Office are all investigating this case.
