Three state inmates face additional jail time following an attempted riot inside the Todd County Jail on Tuesday night.
Jailer Jeff Penick told Your News Edge that the incident began around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, when three inmates began acting out and set fire to a trash can. A door in the facility sustained additional damage.
Penick did not name the three inmates because of ongoing litigation, but authorities calmed them down shortly before 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.
There were no injuries reported.
The Simpson County Jail Correctional Emergency Response Team, as well as all jail staff, responded to the incident.
The Elkton Police Department and Todd County Sheriff’s Office provided extra perimeter security during the incident and subsequent investigation.
The inmates will receive Department of Corrections write-ups, which Penick claims will add significant time to their jail sentence.
Two of the inmates have been moved to another facility.
