From May 1 to 10, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) will lead a major training exercise in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
The operation will put the division’s ability to carry out long-range air assault missions, such as logistics, communications, and tactical coordination, to the test.
The exercise will feature a historic number of aircraft from the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, combining “Screaming Eagles” with “All-American” Soldiers.
While all training will take place on military bases or local airfields, residents near Fort Campbell, Kentucky, may experience increased noise and movement from helicopters and military vehicles.
Residents near the following locations may experience increased military activity:
- University-Oxford Airport (Oxford, MS)
- Vicksburg Tallulah Regional Airport (Vicksburg, MS)
- Camp Minden Training Site (Minden, LA)
- Alexandria International Airport (Alexandria, LA)
Helicopters will use Forward Arming and Refueling Points (FARPs) on the routes between Fort Campbell and Fort Johnson, Louisiana. Ground vehicles will also travel between the sites.
Lt. Col. Martin Meiners, 101st Airborne spokesperson, stated that this exercise ensures readiness while emphasizing safety and coordination with local communities, and that they appreciate the support of their neighbors as well as the National Guard units assisting in Mississippi and Louisiana.
This is a training event. There will be no public airshows or demonstrations.
