A Hopkinsville Man Rides His Bicycle Away From Police

A Hopkinsville man is facing several charges after attempting to flee from police on a bicycle.

On May 4, Christian County Sheriff’s deputies observed 46-year-old Kenneth Lancaster riding an electric bicycle without proper lighting on East 9th Street.

Deputies approached him near Shawnee Drive, where he had stopped to inflate his tire. While deputies were gathering his information, he fled the scene on his bicycle, ignoring repeated orders to stop.

During the chase, deputies noticed a plastic item being discarded near the intersection of Skyline Drive. Lancaster continued to flee until he collided with a patrol vehicle on Calvin Drive, where he was arrested.

Lancaster was found with suspected synthetic marijuana or’spice’, drug paraphernalia, and a capped hypodermic needle, according to the sheriff’s office.

A plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine was later discovered near the location where deputies observed an item thrown during the chase.

Lancaster informed deputies that he fled because he had outstanding warrants. The warrants were confirmed to be for nonpayment of fines in Christian County.

He was arrested and booked into the Christian County Jail on the following charges:

  • Failure to Comply with Bicycle Safety Regulations
  • Fleeing or Evading Police, 2nd Degree (on foot)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence
  • Possession of Synthetic Drugs – 2nd or Subsequent Offense
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance, 1st Degree, 2nd Offense (Methamphetamine).
