This Friday, true crime fans in Hopkinsville will be able to put their knowledge to the test while also supporting a good cause.
The Hopkinsville Police Department will hold its inaugural True Crime Trivia Night on May 9 at Hopkinsville Brewing Company, with proceeds benefiting the local Crime Stoppers program.
“We are hosting our first of hopefully many true crime trivia with Crime Stoppers this Friday, May 9th at the brewery,” said Royale Marfil, Hopkinsville Police Department’s public information officer. “We will be there from 6 to 8.”
The event will accommodate teams of up to six people, with a $150 entry fee per team. The fee includes food and beverages for participants.
“Everybody gets a drink ticket and you get two large three topping pizzas with everything,” Marfil advised. “So we give you food, we get you some drinks, and you’re there to do some trivia.”
While Marfil did not reveal any specific questions, she did hint that the topics could include infamous figures such as Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy.
“I don’t know about specific questions, but we would probably ask questions about Jeffrey Dahmer, Gacy maybe,” she told me.
The trivia night also serves a larger purpose: it raises funds for Crime Stoppers cash rewards, which are given for anonymous tips that help solve crimes.
“As police officers, we cannot be in the city every second of every day,” Marfil told the crowd. “So that’s where we really need community members to step up and be vigilant. If they see any criminal or suspicious activity, they can contact Crime Stoppers anonymously. And if that information leads to the arrest of someone, they are eligible for a cash reward.”
Marfil guarantees that all tips to Crime Stoppers are completely anonymous.
“Our tip line is completely anonymous. “We don’t know any names or phone numbers—it’s all caller-driven,” she explained. “So if you give me a tip and some information, I then in turn give you instructions to call me back at a certain date at a certain time.”
So far, the department has six teams registered for Friday’s event.
“We have plenty of room. “We’re accepting up to 14 teams,” Marfil explained. “All the information will be on the Hopkinsville Police Department Facebook or the Crime Stoppers page.”
